DRESSAGE
It is the first test of a horse and rider’s ability in every event. It is also practiced by itself as a
gymnastical art and Olympic sport. Every rider wants to ride a well -trained horse. Forward, rhythmic,
obedient, supple, relaxed horses are both a pleasure to ride and watch. We at Friendale believe in the benefits
of dressage training for both the horse and rider. Correct systematic training in principles of dressage
assures every rider a level of competence equal to their competitive level. Phyre R. Friend, Friendale’s
instructor/trainer has personally trained and competed horses through Fourth Level Dressage, USDF. Additionally, she
trained with German Olympian Bodo Hangen

STADIUM JUMPING
This phase may be presented in several differing ways. Sometimes it is held in arenas over brightly colored
obstacles with technical turns. Yet other times stadium is held on undulating fields. Thus testing both horse’s
and rider’s ability to shorten and lengthen over varied terrain. Phyre R. Friend leaves nothing out of the
equation in the training of horse and rider. Having trained with some of the best including Hugh Wiley & Mary
Ann Cram along with numerous clinics by George Morris, Victor Hugo-Vidal etc. she also competed as a junior
rider in the equitation, hunter ranks and pony jumpers.

CROSS COUNTRY
The heart of Eventing. This is the phase that draws so many people to the sport. Once experienced,
there is usually little question why. Cross Country is thrilling! There is nothing to compare the exhilaration
one feels successfully piloting a horse around a cross country course. Thorough preparation for both
horse and rider are a necessity to bring both home in the safest manner possible. Phyre R. Friend,
excels in preparing students and horses for the questions they might encounter. Her education includes
extensive training with some of the finest in the sport including Olympians and World Class riders Ralph Hill,
Bruce Davidson, Jim Graham and Phyllis Dawson.
